MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department Wednesday said the southwest monsoon is likely to be active over parts of northwest, east, and central India in the next 6-7 days. This is likely to result in heavy to very heavy rainfall over these regions.
The weather department said a cyclonic circulation lies over south Jharkhand and its neighbourhood. A trough runs from southeast Rajasthan to the northwest Bay of Bengal through this cyclonic circulation, passing through central Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, and Gangetic West Bengal. These weather systems are likely to cause very heavy rainfall over Madhya Pradesh till Sunday. Similar weather conditions are seen over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, it said.
Under the influence of the trough, very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of northwest India till Monday, the weather bureau said. Parts of the region are also likely to receive light or moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 km per hour during the next seven days.
The weather bureau said extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over the ghat areas of Madhya Pradesh Wednesday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of western India during the next seven days. Saurashtra and Kutch are likely to see heavy rainfall in this period, it said.
There is also a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam, the weather department said. This weather system is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall over the region in the next seven days, it said. End
