NEW DELHI – Importers can file applications with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade for authorisation to import low-ash metallurgical coke till Jul. 13, the commerce ministry said in a notice Wednesday. The government has extended the country-wise quantitative restriction on the import of low-ash metallurgical coke till December.

"Country-wise application should be filed, i.e. one application should mention only one supplier country," the commerce ministry said in the notice. "Maximum three applications can be filed by one importer." Importers must also mention the quantity for the entire period of restriction, which is from Jul. 1 to Dec. 31, in their application, the ministry added.

The government has levied quantitative restriction on the import of low-ash variant metallurgical coke, an important raw material used in steel manufacturing and other industrial processes, from Australia, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, and the UK. Importers cannot import more than 14,27,166 tonne of low ash metallurgical coke between July and December, according to the notification.  End
