NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India Tuesday said it received INR 820 million of the withdrawn INR 2,000 currency notes in June. As such, the total value of INR 2,000 banknotes in circulation has declined to INR 60.99 billion as of Monday, with 98.29% of the notes out of circulation, the RBI said.

On May 19, 2023, the central bank had withdrawn the INR 2,000 denomination notes from circulation, even though these notes remain legal tender. Currently, the facility to deposit or exchange the notes is only open at the RBI's 19 issue offices.  End
