MUMBAI – India received 9.9 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 31% above the normal of 7.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, two received above-normal rainfall, while the other two recorded below-normal showers.
Northwest India received 91% above normal rainfall at 8.2 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was up by 55% at 13.3 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 15% below normal at 11.9 millimetres. The southern peninsula recorded 5.3 millimetres of rainfall, 7% below the normal of 5.7 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Tuesday was "large excess" in 15, "excess" in three, "normal" in two, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in nine, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 10% above normal rainfall for the period at 189.9 millimetres, the data showed. End
