India Apr-May iron ore output up 0.6% on year at 53.0 mln tn

NEW DELHI – Iron ore production in the country increased 0.6% on year to 53.0 million tonnes in Apr-May from 52.7 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year, the Ministry of Mines said in a release. Iron ore accounts for 70% of the value of the total mineral production covered under the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules. India had produced 289 million tonnes of iron ore in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), it added.
During Apr-May, production of manganese ore rose by 1.4% on year to 700,000 tonnes, bauxite output up by 0.9% on year to 4.7 million tonnes, zinc concentrate up by 3.7% on year to 280,000 tonnes, and limestone up by 1.6% on year to 81.4 million tonnes.
In the non-ferrous metal sector, primary aluminium production in Apr-May rose 1.3% on year to 707,000 tonnes. During the same period, refined copper production grew 43.5% on year to 99,000 tonnes. India is the second-largest aluminium producer, the third-largest iron ore producer, and among the top ten producers of refined copper in the world. End
