NEW DELHI – Tata Motors' domestic passenger vehicle dispatches fell in June, marking the steepest decline since April 2023, according to data available with Informist. The company's Managing Director Shailesh Chandra in a press release said the industry faced volume pressures during the June quarter, particularly in May and June, adding that flat growth reflected the ongoing softness in demand.

The Harrier-maker sold 123,839 passenger vehicles in India in the latest quarter, down 10% on year. It sold 154 units abroad in June, compared to 100 last year. Including electric vehicles, its total passenger vehicle sales fell 15% on year to 37,237 units in June. In the latest quarter, the company sold 970 passenger vehicles to dealerships abroad, registering a growth of 68% on year.

Its electric vehicle despatches, in India and overseas, grew 12% on year in June, to 5,228 units. In an encouraging sign, this was the strongest growth rate for its electric vehicles since February last year, when despatches grew 30%. "EV (electric vehicle) sales gained strong momentum towards the end of the quarter with a healthy growth trajectory," Chandra said.

COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

Commercial vehicle despatches by Tata Motors contracted for the 13th consecutive month in June. The company sold 30,238 commercial vehicles to dealerships in June, down over 5% on year. This was mainly due to a 9?ll in domestic despatches, at 27,936 units.

"Q1 FY26 (Apr-Jun) began on a subdued note for the commercial vehicle industry with muted performance in the HCV (heavy commercial vehicles) and SCVPU (small commercial vehicle and pickup) segments while buses, vans, and ILMCVs (intermediate, light and medium commercial vehicles) registered modest year-on-year growth," said Tata Motors' Executive Director Girish Wagh. In Apr-Jun, commercial vehicle wholesale sales fell 6% on year to 85,606 units.

Small commercial vehicle and pickup segment, which forms 36% of Tata Motors' commercial vehicle sales in India, contracted 9% on year to 10,056 units in June. Sales of heavy commercial trucks declined 17% on year to 7,359 units while sales of passenger carriers remained largely unchanged at 5,658 units.

The company sold 2,302 commercial vehicles to dealerships abroad, registering a growth of 70% on year. "With forecasts for a healthy monsoon across the country, reduction in repo rate, and renewing thrust on infrastructure development, we expect commercial vehicles volumes to improve progressively in the coming quarters," Wagh said.

Tata Motors' domestic wholesale sales in June fell 12% on year to 65,019 units. In Apr-Jun, they fell 10% on year to 203,411 units. Including exports, the Altroz-maker sold 210,415 units in the first quarter of the ongoing financial year, down over 8% on year.

Shares of the company were ended 0.6% down at INR 683.80 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
