The subdivisions for which the red alert has been issued are Himachal Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, and east Madhya Pradesh.
A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours, and is the highest level of weather warning.
Very heavy rainfall is seen over Madhya Pradesh Wednesday and from Saturday to Monday, over Jharkhand Tuesday, and over Odisha till Thursday, the weather department said. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of east and central India till Monday, it added.
In northwest India, heavy to very heavy rainfall is seen over parts of the region till Monday, the weather bureau said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 km per hour is likely over most parts of the region for the next seven days, the bureau said.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan, Goa, the ghat areas of central Maharashtra, and Gujarat in the next seven days, while heavy rainfall is seen over Saurashtra and Kutch in the same period, the weather department said. Light or moderate showers, with the occasional short spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, are likely over northeast India in the next seven days, the department said.
In south peninsular India, heavy rainfall is likely over most of the region till Monday, the weather bureau said. Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Wednesday, the department said. End
