NEW DELHI – Unified Payments Interface transactions rose 32% on year to 18.40 billion in June, according to data from the National Payments Corp. of India. At 32%, the year-on-year growth in UPI transactions is the lowest on record, but only marginally lower than the 33% on-year growth in May.
In value terms, UPI transactions increased 20% on year last month to INR 24.04 trillion. Both the number of UPI transactions and the amount involved in the transactions were lower than in May. UPI transactions had hit a record high of 18.68 billion in May, while transactions in value terms were INR 24.04 trillion.
"Despite minor seasonal variations, the consistent year-on-year growth highlights the deepening adoption of interoperable, low-cost, and secure digital payment solutions," said Ramakrishnan Ramamurthy, chief delivery and operations officer – India, Worldline. "This trend reflects ongoing resilience and a clear shift in consumer behaviour, which continues to fuel adoption all the way to the last mile," Ramamurthy said in a note.
The average daily transaction count was 613 million in June, higher than the 602 million in May. The average daily transaction amount was INR 801.31 billion last month, against INR 811.06 billion in May, data showed. End
