NEW DELHI – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Tuesday said its domestic passenger vehicle despatches, comprising only utility vehicles, grew 18% on year to 47,306 units in June. However, the company sold fewer passenger vehicles than it did in April and May. The company's farm equipment business grew in double digits in June on the back of an early onset of monsoon.
Analysts at Nomura Research had anticipated M&M's utility vehicles sales to grow 20% on year. "The quarter ended on a very positive note for us, marking the highest quarter ever for SUVs (sport utility vehicles)," said the Thar-maker's Chief Executive Officer-automotive division Nalinikanth Gollagunta in an exchange filing.
M&M's commercial vehicle despatches hit a five-month low of 20,575 units in June, largely unchanged on year. The company sold 2,576 light commercial vehicles in the lower-than-2 tonne segment in June, down 20% on year. Despatches of light commercial vehicles in the 2.0-3.5 tonne segment grew nearly 4% on year to 16,772 units.
Wholesale sales of light commercial vehicles exceeding 3.5-tonne capacity and medium-heavy commercial vehicles remained largely unchanged on year at 1,227 units.
M&M despatched 8,454 three-wheelers to dealerships in June, up 37% on year. This is the highest number of three-wheelers the company has sold in a month since October last year, when it sold 9,826 units. These figures include sales of electric three-wheelers.
The company sold 2,634 automotive units in June to dealerships overseas, registering a growth of only 1% on year. This is the weakest growth since its exports contracted 40% in July 2024.
In Apr-Jun, M&M's utility vehicle sales in India increased 22% on year to 152,067 units.
FARM BUSINESS
Mahindra's farm equipment business saw total sales of 53,392 tractors to dealerships in June, up 13% on year. Its domestic wholesale sales grew 13% on year to 51,769 units, and exports also grew 13% to 1,623 units. Between April and June, M&M sold 134,089 tractors to dealerships, up 10% on year.
"The industry posted growth in June 2025, primarily driven by cash flow from rabi crop harvesting and widespread arrival of monsoon across most regions," said Veejay Nakra, president of M&M's farm equipment business in a press release. "With better long-term rainfall departure this month, land preparation activities are well supported for the upcoming Kharif season."
Nakra expects a record foodgrain production in rice, wheat, and pulses, along with government initiatives to improve farmer income. This is expected to augur well for tractor demand in the coming months, he added.
At 1147 IST, shares of the company traded 0.2% higher at INR 3,189 a piece on the National Stock Exchange. End
