Bajaj Auto's India Jun 2-wheeler despatches dn 16% YoY, exports at 3-mo high

NEW DELHI – Domestic despatches of two-wheelers by Bajaj Auto Ltd. fell to a three-month low of 149,317 units in June, down 16% on year, while exports hit a three-month high of 149,167 units, according to an exchange filing by the company on Tuesday. Including three-wheelers, Bajaj Auto's wholesale sales in June barely grew on year, at 360,806 units, lower than Nomura Research's estimate of a nearly 3% growth.
The company sold a total of 298,484 two-wheelers to dealerships in India and overseas, down nearly 2% on year. In May, its two-wheeler despatches had increased 9% on year.
Including commercial vehicles, or three-wheelers, Bajaj Auto's India despatches contracted 13% on year to 188,460 units in June. Exports grew a robust 21% on year to 172,346 units last month.
Bajaj Auto's commercial vehicle operations fared much better than two-wheelers in June. The Pune-based company sold a total of 62,322 three-wheelers last month, registering growth of 14% on year. This was largely led by overseas business, as it exported 23,179 three-wheelers to dealerships abroad, up 49% on year. In India, the company sold 39,149 three-wheelers in June, a touch lower than a year ago.
In the first three months of the ongoing financial year, Bajaj Auto sold 1.1 million units to dealerships, about a percent higher than last year. Domestic despatches fell 8% on year to 634,808 units, while exports grew 16% to 476,429 units.
For the March quarter, Bajaj Auto reported a net profit of INR 20.49 billion on revenue of INR 121.48 billion. At 0939 IST, shares of the company were flat on the National Stock Exchange at INR 8,375 apiece. End
