May weighted avg rate on new bank loan falls to 9.20%, lowest since Apr 2023

NEW DELHI – The weighted average lending rate on fresh rupee loans of scheduled commercial banks fell 6 basis points from a month ago to 9.20% in May, data released Monday by the Reserve Bank of India showed. Fresh rupee loans are the cheapest since April 2023 and rates on loans fell for the third consecutive month in May.
The weighted average rate on fresh rupee loans of foreign banks fell 20 bps on month to 8.54% in May and those of public sector banks fell 8 bps to 8.38%. The weighted average lending rate of private banks, however, rose 7 bps to 10.15%.
The weighted average lending rate on outstanding rupee loans of scheduled commercial banks eased by just 1 bp on month to 9.69% in May. The one-year median marginal cost of fund-based lending rate of scheduled commercial banks moderated to 8.90% in June from 8.95% in May.
The weighted average rate on fresh rupee term deposits of scheduled commercial banks was 6.11% in May, down 23 bps from 6.34% in April. At 6.11%, banks' weighted average rate on fresh rupee term deposits is the lowest since November 2022.
The weighted average rate on fresh deposits of public sector banks fell 14 bps to 6.59% in May, while the rate of private sector banks declined 27 bps to 6.29%. The weighted average domestic term deposit rate on outstanding rupee term deposits of scheduled commercial banks was 7.07% in May, down marginally from 7.10% in April. End
