MUMBAI – India received 9.7 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 27% above the normal of 7.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, two received above-normal showers while the other two received below-normal rainfall, data from the department showed.
Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 109% above normal at 10.9 millimetres, the data stated. Rainfall in central India was 37% above normal at 11.5 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 29% below normal rainfall at 4.3 millimetres. East and northeast recorded 9.9 millimetres of rainfall, 22% below the normal of 12.6 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Monday was "large excess" in 13, "excess" in four, "normal" in five, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in eight, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 9% above normal rainfall for the period at 180.0 millimetres, the data showed. End
