HYDERABAD/AHMEDABAD – Adani Green Energy Ltd. is learnt to have received approval from an Andhra Pradesh government agency on Monday to increase the capacity of its proposed 3.1 gigawatt pumped hydro storage power project, or PSP, by 1.9 GW, multiple sources told Informist.

Adani Renewable Energy Fifty One Ltd., a group company of Adani Green Energy Ltd. had sought permission to expand its proposed 1,000 MW PSP at Gandikota in YSR Kadapa district to 1,800 MW. "This request has been approved by New and Renewable Energy Development Corp. Ltd of Andhra Pradesh, or NREDCAP, today (Monday)," a senior Andhra Pradesh government official said. The project is to be set up near the Penna river. The cost of the Gandikota plant was expected to be INR 42.5 billion for 1 GW capacity. With the capacity now being raised, this could go up proportionately, a company official said. The company had also sought an increase in the one-time water allocation to 18.7 million cubic metres from 12.20 million cubic metres and for annual use to 1.9 million cubic metres from 1.54 million cubic metres, the official said.

Other than the Gandikota project, NREDCAP on Monday also approved an increase of the capacity of the Peddakota PSP in Alluri Sitarama Raju district from 1,000 MW to 1,800 MW, and that for the Raiwada PSP in Vizianagaram and Anakapalli districts from 600 MW to 900 MW.

So far, Andhra Pradesh accounts for 3.1 GW of the pump hydro power storage projects proposed by Adani Green Energy and its subsidiaries till 2030. It had proposed to spend a little over INR 157 billion on all the PSP projects in the state. The company has received all approvals, achieved financial closure and begun construction of the 500 MW Chitravathi project in Andhra Pradesh. Work on another 1 GW project at Peddakotla and 600 MW at Raiwada and Vizianagaram, with proposed investment of INR 64 billion, has begun and this will be commissioned in a phased manner till 2028. Post the approvals, the new capacity of Adani Green Energy and its subsdiaries' PSP projects in Andhra Pradesh alone would be 5 GW.

Adani Green Energy had also received a go-ahead for a 1.25 GW project in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, in February. The company expects to complete this project over the coming six years. An Adani group official said that overall, the company has announced 10-11 GW of PSP projects across the country so far.

Shares of Adani Green Energy Monday closed at INR 1,025.60 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1%.  End
