NEW DELHI – The Food Corp. of India has procured 30.1 million tonne wheat so far against the twice revised target of 33.3 million tonnes in the 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) rabi marketing season, the Department of Food and Public Distribution said in a post on X. It had initially set a target to procure 31.3 million tonnes of wheat but revised it upwards after robust buys from Rajsthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The government has paid INR 720.6 billion to purchase wheat at the Minimum Support Price of INR 2,425 per 100 kg. Wheat has been bought from 2.4 mln farmers across the country. The procurement window is set to end on Monday.
The total wheat production for 2024-25 (Jul–Jun) is estimated to rise to a record 117.5 million tonnes, compared with 113.3 million tonnes last year, according to farm ministry's projections. Higher output, early start to procurement operations, and government bonuses have boosted wheat purchases after three consecutive years of below-target purchases. End
