Govt OKs setting up INR-4.2-bln electronics manufacturing cluster in UP

NEW DELHI - The government has approved the setting up of an INR-4.17-billion electronics manufacturing cluster at Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddha Nagar, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said Wednesday in a release. The cluster is being set up to boost local manufacturing and innovation, the ministry said.
The project, to be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, will be spread over 200 acres and is expected to attract investment of INR 25 billion, the ministry said. The cluster is projected to generate 15,000 jobs, Electronics Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in the release.
The cluster will support manufacturing across consumer electronics, automotive, industrial electronics, medical devices, computer hardware, and communication equipment and help reduce infrastructure and logistics costs, the release said.
The electronics manufacturing cluster scheme of the ministry has attracted investment of around INR 300 billion. The scheme has attracted 520 companies and has generated over 86,000 jobs, the release said. End
