India gets 38% higher rainfall than normal in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 63.9 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 38% above the normal of 46.3 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Rainfall was more than the long-period average in three of the four homogeneous regions in the country and below the average in one, the weather bureau said.
The rainfall was a whopping 102% above the long-period average in northwest India at 43.2 millimetres during the week and 49% above the long-period average in central India at 78.6 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 24% above the average at 109.9 millimetres while in south peninsula, it was 15% below the long-period average at 33.8 millimetres during the week, the weather agency said.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in eight and "excess" in seven during the week. Rainfall was "normal" in 13 subdivisions and "deficient" in six. Two subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week.
From Jun. 1 till Wednesday, India has received 135.3 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above the normal of 126.9 millimetres for the period. End
