Low pressure area to form over northwest Bay of Bengal in 24 hrs, says IMD

MUMBAI – A low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and north Odisha and West Bengal coasts in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department said Wednesday. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of east and central India till Tuesday, the weather department said. 
 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Konkan and Goa, the ghat areas of central Maharashtra, and the Gujarat region till Tuesday, the department said. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Saurashtra and Kutch till Tuesday, it said. The department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over Odisha and the Gujarat region for Wednesday.

 

Very heavy rainfall is likely over most of northwest India till Tuesday, while heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, is likely over most places in northeast India, and isolated heavy rainfall in some places in the next seven days, it said. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, it said.

 

Very heavy rainfall is likely over some parts of interior Karnataka on Wednesday, and over some parts of coastal Karnataka, ghat areas of Tamil Nadu, and Kerala till Thursday. The department has predicted heavy rainfall over parts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu till Saturday and over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Wednesday. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over most of the southern peninsula till Sunday, the department said.

 

Conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance to some more parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, over the remaining parts of western Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi in the next 24 hours, it said.  End
