NEW DELHI – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday said that if Israel does not violate the ceasefire, announced by US President Donald Trump earlier in the day, his country would also refrain from further attacks. Pezeshkian made the remarks during his telephonic conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Iranian president's office said in a statement.

"Following Iran's firm response to the US actions, a ceasefire proposal was presented, Pezeshkian stated, adding, if the Zionist regime does not violate the ceasefire, Iran will not do so," the statement released by Iranian president's office said.

Tuesday was a day of several unexpected twists in the Iran-Israel war. The day started with President Trump announcing that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire". While Iran denied, Israel prime minister's office issued a statement that it has agreed to Trump's proposal. Hours after Trump announced that the "ceasefire is now in effect", Israel Defence Forces said that Iran launched a barrage of missiles, adding that Israel would respond forcefully.

However, Trump asked Israel "do not drop those bomb" and warned that it would be a major violation. Nearly 40 minutes later, Trump posted on Truth Social that Israel is not going to attack Iran. "All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly plane wave to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect," Trump said on Truth Social. Trump also said that Iran would never rebuild its nuclear facilities, indicating a permanent end to the ongoing conflict.

In a statement on the situation, Israeli government said that Iran launched three missiles on its territory after the ceasefire took effect. "These missiles were either intercepted or fell in open areas, and caused neither casualties nor damage. In response to Iran's violations, the Air Force destroyed a radar installation near Tehran," the statement read. "Pursuant to the conversation between President Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel refrained from additional attacks."

The conflict escalated in the West Asia after Israel had launched 'Operation Rising Lion' on the intervening night of Jun. 12-13, targeting Iran's nuclear facilities, military infrastructure and leadership. On Sunday, the US joined the conflict with air strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran--Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. In retaliation, Tehran launched missiles on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.  End
