MUMBAI – India received 10.0 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 44% above the normal of 6.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Three out of four homogeneous regions across the country received above-normal rainfall, while one recorded below-normal showers.
Rainfall in central India was sharply up by 88% at 14.3 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 20% above normal at 16.1 millimetres. Northwest India received 37% above normal rainfall at 5.1 millimetres. The South peninsula recorded 5.3 millimetres of rainfall, 6% below the normal of 5.6 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Tuesday was "large excess" in 11, "excess" in 11, "normal" in six, "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in five, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 4% above normal rainfall for the period at 124.5 millimetres, the data showed. End
