MUMBAI – The southwest monsoon has covered Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand as of Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Conditions are favourable for the monsoon current to advance further into some more parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, over the remaining parts of west Uttar Pradesh, and over Delhi in the next 36 hours, the weather department said.

 

The weather bureau has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Konkan, central Maharashtra, and Gujarat on Tuesday, for which it has issued a red alert. Very heavy rainfall is also likely over most parts of Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, and Gujarat, while heavy rainfall is seen over pockets of Saurashtra and Kutch till Monday, the bureau said.

 

Rainfall over northwest India is likely to increase from Wednesday, the weather department said. Very heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of the region till Friday, the department said. Heavy rainfall is also expected over some parts of the region till Monday, it said. 

 

In east and central India, very heavy rainfall is likely over Madhya Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Tuesday, over Bihar on Saturday, Jharkhand on Thursday, and over Odisha on Wednesday and Thursday, the department said. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over parts of the region till Sunday, it said.

 

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala and Karnataka till Saturday, over coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday, and over Tamil Nadu on Friday and Saturday, the bureau said. Very heavy rainfall is seen over interior Karnataka on Tuesday, and over coastal Karnataka till Thursday, it said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over parts of the southern peninsula till Monday, it said.

 

The weather department has forecast a heatwave over Jammu on Tuesday.  End
