NEW DELHI – Israel has agreed to US President Donald Trump's proposal for a ceasefire with Iran, claiming that it has achieved all the objectives of 'Operation Rising Lion', the Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. The Israeli government, however, underlined that any violation of the ceasefire will be responded to "forcefully".

Israel also thanked President Trump and the US for their defensive support and for their participation in removing the Iranian nuclear threat. Israel had launched 'Operation Rising Lion' on Jun. 12 targeting Iran's nuclear facilities, military infrastructure and leadership. The US joined the conflict on Sunday with air strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran--Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

"In light of having achieved the objectives of the operation, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agrees to the President's proposal for a bilateral ceasefire. Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel said.

The Isreali government also asked its citizens to adhere to Israel Defence Forces Home Front Command directives until the full observance of the ceasefire has been verified.

On Monday night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the Security Cabinet to report that Israel has achieved all the objectives of Operation Rising Lion, and much more.

"Israel has removed from over it a double existential threat – on both the nuclear issue and regarding ballistic missiles. The Israel Defence Forces also achieved complete air superiority in the skies over Tehran, struck a severe blow to the military leadership and destroyed dozens of Iran's main regime targets," the statement reads.

"In the last several days, the IDF has also severely struck regime targets in the heart of Tehran, eliminated hundreds of militants from the Basij, the terrorist regime's instrument of repression, and eliminated an additional senior nuclear scientist."

Earlier in the day, Trump had written in a post on Truth Social that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire", which would be effective in six hours. In another post, Trump announced that the ceasefire is in effect, asking both countries not to violate the agreement. The US had on Sunday night launched attacks on Iranian nuclear sites and in retaliation, Tehran launched missiles on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.  End
