NEW DELHI - The government has finalised contracts to procure equipment worth nearly INR 20 billion to strengthen the Indian Army's operational readiness in counter-terrorism operations, the defence ministry said Tuesday. The ministry finalised 13 contracts, amounting to INR 19.82 billion, to procure the equipment, against a sanctioned outlay of INR 20 billion, a release said.

"These procurements reflect the ministry's commitment to equipping the Indian Army with modern, mission-critical, and completely indigenous systems to meet emerging security challenges," the release said. The procurement is under the defence ministry's

Emergency Procurement mechanism, it said.

Procured equipment includes low level lightweight radars, very short range air defence systems-launchers and missiles, remotely piloted aerial vehicles, bullet proof jackets, night sights for rifles, ballistic helmets, among others, according to the release.

The procurement announcement comes nearly two months after the terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam that had claimed 26 lives.  End
