India rainfall Sun 9% below normal at 6.2 mm; 1% below normal since Jun 1

MUMBAI – India received 6.2 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 9% below the normal of 6.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, two received above-normal rainfall while two below-normal rainfall.

 

Rainfall in northwest India was sharply up by 87% above normal at 5.6 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 4% above normal at 8.3 millimetres. East and northeast recorded 6.3 millimetres of rainfall, 52% below the normal of 13.2 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 43% below normal rainfall at 3.2 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Sunday was "large excess" in seven, "normal" in five, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in 15, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 1% below normal rainfall at 105.0 millimetres for the period, the data showed.  End
