MUMBAI – India received 6.9 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday, 7% above the normal of 6.4 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, one received above-normal showers, while the other three recorded below-normal rainfall.
In northwest India, rainfall was a whopping 156% above average at 7.9 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 25% below normal at 9.1 millimetres. Central India recorded 6.7 millimetres of rainfall, 10% below the normal of 7.4 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 30% below normal rainfall at 3.7 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Saturday was "large excess" in eight, "excess" in five, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in nine, data from the department showed. Five subdivisions received "normal" showers. Since Jun. 1, the country has received normal rainfall at 98.8 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
