NEW DELHI – The government has launched a start-up challenge to accelerate rooftop solar and distributed renewable energy innovations with a total prize pool of INR 23 million, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said Saturday. The programme was launched during the National Conference on Skill Development for the Renewable Energy Workforce held here on Friday, the ministry said.
Under the challenge, participating start-ups will have to focus on four key categories to boost renewable energy adoption – affordability, resilience, inclusivity and environmental sustainability. "The challenge welcomes a wide range of start-ups in green tech, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, construction, energy hardware, fintech, and waste management," the ministry said in a release. The top innovator will win INR 10 million.
The National Conference on Skill Development for Renewable Energy Workforce was organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in collaboration with the National Solar Energy Federation of India, and was aimed at strengthening India's renewable energy talent ecosystem by fostering dialogue between the government, industry, and training institutions on scalable, inclusive, and industry-aligned skilling strategies.
The event focussed on promoting industry-driven training models, advancing gender-inclusive entrepreneurship, and improving Centre-state coordination for decentralised skilling. At the event, New and Renewable Energy Secetary Santosh Sarangi called for skilled manpower, a strong carbon credit mechanism, and start-up participation for India's ambition for clean tech, clean energy, and clean future.
