PM Modi inaugurates, lays foundation stone for multiple projects in Bihar

NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple infrastructure projects in election-bound Bihar and pitched for a double engine government in the state in this year's assembly elections. Assembly elections in the state are scheduled in Oct-Nov.
Modi laid the foundation stone for water supply, sanitation and sewage treatment plants worth over INR 30 billion in several towns across the state. He also inaugurated the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line project worth over INR 4 billion and flagged off a new train service on this route. The prime minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Patliputra and Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah to boost connectivity in northern part of the state. He also the laid the foundation stone for 500 megawatt-hour capacity battery energy storage system in Bihar.
Addressing a rally at Siwan, Modi said the launching pad for Bihar's development has been prepared under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government and pushed for another term for the National Democratic Alliance government in the state. Highlighting his government's development works, the prime minister said 40 million families had got permanent houses in the last one decade and said that 30 million permanent houses will be built in coming years. In 243-member assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party stands as the single-largest party with 84 seats. At present, the National Democratic Alliance of Janata Dal (United) and the BJP is in power in Bihar under Chief Minister Kumar.
Modi attacked the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal led governments for Bihar's backwardness. "The Congress party's policies pushed poor people into extreme poverty in Bihar. During Congress and RJD government, the poor people were not getting any facility in the state. They were not having permanent houses. There was no water and electricity connections during the Congress-RJD government," he said.
Modi also released the first instalment to over 53,600 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in Bihar. He handed over keys to a few beneficiaries to mark the Grih Pravesh Ceremony of more than 6,600 completed houses of the housing scheme. End
