India gets 11% higher rainfall than normal in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 45.1 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 11% above the normal of 40.5 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Rainfall was more than the long-period average in three of the four homogeneous regions in the country and below the average in one, the weather bureau said.
The rainfall was 22% above the long-period average in northwest India at 20.7 millimetres during the week, while it was 25% above the long-period average in central India at 53.6 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 48% above the average at 62.7 millimetres, while in east and northeast India, it was 33% below the long-period average at 52.7 millimetres during the week, the weather agency said.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in one and "deficient" in 10 during the week. Rainfall was "large excess" in 13 subdivisions and "excess" in five. Seven subdivisions received normal rainfall during the week.
From Jun. 1 to Wednesday, India has received 71.5 millimetres of rainfall, 11% below the normal of 80.6 millimetres for the period. End
