IMD sees monsoon advancing in parts of northwest India in next 2-3 days

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department Thursday said conditiona are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into more parts of northwest India in the next two-three days. The monsoon is likely to cover entire Madhya Pradesh in the next two-three days, according to the weather bureau.
The southwest monsoon is likely advance into more parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh in the next two-three days. The weather agency said conditions are also favourable for the monsoon to advance into the key basmati rice growing states of Punjab and Haryana next week.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau said extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Jharkhand till Friday. Similar weather conditions are seen over parts of Konkan, central Maharashtra, and Gujarat region Thursday. Owing to extremely heavy showers, the department issued a red alert for these regions for Thursday. A red alert indicates extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning.
The weather department said very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over northeast India for the next seven days. During the week northwest India is also likely to receive very heavy showers along with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour.
The department has issued a 'multi-hazard warning' for the country for Thursday. According to the India Meteorological Department, a multi-hazard warning means a forecast that alerts about multiple potentially dangerous weather conditions or events such as cyclones, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, heatwaves, cold waves, and fog, all occurring at the same time or in sequence.
The bureau expects hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema till Saturday. Maximum temperatures in Madhya Pradesh are likely to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next five days, it said. End
