NEW DELHI – The BSE Ltd. in a circular on Tuesday said the Securities and Exchange Board of India has agreed to the exchange's proposal for Thursday as the expiry day for equity derivatives contracts. This will entail change in the expiry day of derivatives contracts from the current Tuesday, the BSE said.
Earlier, a source had told Informist that the SEBI had likely given its approval to fix Thursday as the expiry day for BSE's futures and options contracts. The SEBI had issued a circular on May 26 asking stock exchanges to submit their proposals on final settlement day, or expiry day, for their equity derivatives contracts by Jun. 15.
The National Stock Exchange of India has likely received SEBI's approval to fix Tuesday as the expiry day for its equity derivatives contracts, an official told Informist. Earlier, according to reports by NDTV Profit and CNBC-TV18, the NSE applied for Tuesday as the expiry day for its equity futures and options contracts and is likely to have got the regulator's approval for the same.
According to the BSE circular, the exchange will continue with the present expiry day for equity derivatives contracts which expire on or before Aug. 31. The exchange will change the expiry day of equity derivatives contracts which expire on or after Sept. 1 to Thursday, as per the circular. Further, from Sept. 1, the monthly equity derivatives contracts will expire on last Thursday of the month, the BSE said, adding the exchange will also introduce any fresh weekly contracts on index futures from Jul. 1.
Later Tuesday, the NSE also issued a circular confirming the development pertaining to equity futures and options contracts expiry day. The exchange said it has received SEBI's approval to its proposal to have Tuesday as the expiry day for its equity derivatives contracts. According to NSE, it will continue with present expiry day of Thursday for equity derivatives contracts which expire on or before Aug. 31, and will change it Tuesday for those which expire on or after Sept. 1. Further, from Sept. 1, the monthly equity derivatives contracts will expire on last Tuesday of the month, NSE said. End
