NEW DELHI - Iran has a "second chance" to make a deal with Washington on its nuclear programme, to end the destruction and further conflict with Israel, US President Donald Trump said Friday. "Two months ago I gave Iran a 60-day ultimatum to make a deal. They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn't get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance," Trump said on Truth Social. Early Friday, Israel launched pre-emptive strikes against Iran, targetting Tehran's nuclear sites, claiming Iran was building nuclear warheads.

 

The US president asked Iran to make a deal "before there is nothing left" and warned that the scale of destruction will get worse. "There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end," Trump said. The US is seeking a nuclear deal with Iran that prevents Tehran from developing nuclear weapons by halting uranium enrichment beyond civilian levels and dismantling critical infrastructure of high-level enrichment, reports stated.

 

"I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to "just do it," but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn't get it done. Certain Iranian hardliner's spoke bravely, but they didn't know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now...," he said.

 

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed about the evolving situation by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "I shared India's concerns and emphasized the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region," Modi said on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

 

The Israel Defense Forces said that the chief of staff of Iranian Armed Forces and Commander of Iran's Emergency Command were eliminated in the Israeli strikes across Iran by more than 200 fighter jets. The Iranian media reported death of six nuclear scientists in the Israeli strikes.

 

According to reports, Tehran launched 100 drones towards Israel in retaliation, which, the Israel Defense Forces said were intercepted by its air defences outside Israeli territory.  End
