NEW DELHI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India Friday uploaded on its website a Jun. 9 clarification issued to Businessworld on a news report dated May 25 which alleged that the regulator, in an arbitrary and secret move, had drastically reduced its panel of forensic auditors to nine in the current year from 20 in 2022. SEBI clarified that empanelment of forensic auditors was carried out through the government's MSTC portal and it also issued one advertisement each in a national English newspaper, a Hindi newspaper, and a Marathi newspaper on Nov. 29.

 

SEBI said that in response to the advertisement, "52 applications were received and based on the information submitted... 9 applicants fulfilled the eligibility criterial and hence were empanelled." The market regulator emphasised that various companies or firms that were earlier empanelled with SEBI as forensic auditors had not applied in response to the advertisement.

 

"The list of empanelled forensic auditors was published on SEBI's website on April 23, 2025," SEBI said in its clarification. The regulator said it is considering additional empanelment of forensic auditors during the current financial year.  End
