MUMBAI – Life Insurance Corp. of India Friday said it will expedite claim settlements for the families of the Air India plane crash victims. The insurer said it will ensure that claimants are reached out and claims are settled expeditiously to the affected families.
On Thursday, Air India's Flight AI-171 with 242 passengers and crew on board crashed into a hostel of medical students immediately after take-off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Of the 242 on board, 241 have been confirmed dead.
Along with those on board the flight, several people on the ground were also killed during the plane crash in Ahmedabad. Air India announced compensation of INR 10 million for the next of kin of the deceased in the crash and also promised help to those injured.
To expedite claim settlements, LIC said any evidence in government records of death of the policyholder due to the plane crash, or any compesation paid by the government or airline authorities will be accepted as proof of death. "LIC of India is committed to supporting those affected and will expedite claim settlements to provide financial relief," the insurer said in a press release. End
