NEW DELHI – The finance ministry Wednesday clarified that it is not mulling any merchant discount rate fee on transactions through the Unified Payments Interface, after multiple media reports claimed that the government may consider imposing such a levy on UPI transactions in the range of INR 2,000-INR 5,000.
"Such baseless and sensation-creating speculations cause needless uncertainty, fear and suspicion among our citizens," the finance ministry said in a post on X. "The government remains fully committed to promoting digital payments via UPI," it said. End
