NEW DELHI - Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions will likely continue over northwest India till Friday and reduce thereafter, according to the India Meteorological Department. A severe heatwave indicates actual maximum temperatures in a given region exceeding 47 degrees Celsius.

No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over northwest and central India during the next 3 days and they will gradually fall by 2-4 degree Celsius thereafter, the bureau said. 

 

The monsoon is likely to be active with heavy-to-very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over south peninsular India between Thursday to Monday and over Konkan and Goa during Thursday to Saturday, the weather bureau said. 

 

After stalling for over 15 days, the conditions are likely to be favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon over some more parts of central and adjoining east India by Saturday. The weather bureau sees heavy rainfall over isolated parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana till Sunday, with very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Tuesday. Kerala and Mahe will see extremely heavy rainfall till Monday, and Karnataka till Tuesday, the bureau said. 

 

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa, central Maharashtra till Tuesday, Marathawada till Saturday, the bureau said. Central Maharashtra along with Konkan and Goa will see extremely heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.

 

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha from Saturday to Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is also likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Friday, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim between Friday and Sunday and over Odisha till Tuesday. 

 

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand till Tuesday, the bureau said. Heavy rainfall is likely over isolated parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya between Saturday to Tuesday and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Tuesday. 

 

A severe heat wave is expected to grip several parts of northern India till Saturday, with the heatwave conditions "very likely" over Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi and severe heatwave conditions persisting in these regions till Friday. 

 

Heat wave conditions are also predicted over Himachal Pradesh and east Rajasthan till Saturday, while west Rajasthan will face heatwave till Sunday. Heatwaves are also likely in parts of west and east Uttar Pradesh till Thursday, while hot and humid weather will prevail in Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh during the same dates, the department said.  End
