NEW DELHI – The Prime Minister's Office has asked various ministries, departments as well as financial regulators to take stock of the reforms and development initiatives undertaken by the Centre since 2014, and prepare a new agenda to mark 11 years of completion of the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government, an official said. The BJP government completed 11 years in power on May 26.

Each department's agenda, which is currently under formulation, will be an internal draft that will guide it to meet the goals under 'Viksit Bharat', the official said. 'Viksit Bharat' is a national mission started under the BJP government with an aim to make India a developed country by 2047, the 100th anniversary of India's independence.

Ministries, departments, and regulators, including the Reserve Bank of India and the Securities and Exchange Board of India, have also been asked to run a social media campaign highlighting the reforms undertaken by the Modi government. The regulators are also making short films as part of the campaign, the government official said.

Prime Minister Modi is currently serving his third term. While the BJP came to power with absolute majority in the first two terms, in 2024 it formed a coalition government with support from Telegu Desam Party, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party, Shiv Sena, and Hindustani Awam Morcha, among others.

The BJP leadership has also been tasked with highlighting the Modi government's achievements through various campaigns across the country. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing the media on Tuesday in Lucknow, highlighted the boost to infrastructure development and economic growth of the country during the 11 years of the Modi government. Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita also held a press conference in Sikkim on the completion of 11 years of BJP government.

On Monday, Health Minister and BJP President J.P. Nadda, along with Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, briefed the media on the Modi government's achievements since 2014. Nadda said that Modi has laid a strong foundation for a developed and self-reliant India, and has brought transparency and built a forward-looking, futuristic administration. The BJP president, while expressing difficulty in presenting a full account of 11 years, named some bold decisions taken by the Modi government, such as the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, law against triple talaq, the Citizenship Amendment Act, and allowing 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies. He also highlighted that India became the fifth-largest economy in the world under the Modi government, and added that by the end of this year, the country will surpass Japan as the fourth-largest economy.

Meanwhile, the Congress party released a booklet on 11 years of the Modi government, highlighting a stagnated growth rate, rising hunger, and "unfulfilled promises". "In the 11-Saal document, one of the first themes that they (BJP) highlight is taking care of the poor and the marginalised. But the basic problem of hunger is a much larger crisis in India, and it puts us at 105th out of 127 countries in the World Hunger Index," Congress leader Rajeev Gowda had said at a press conference on Monday. "Malnutrition is affecting our children in a horrible way, crippling their growth. Stunting is at 35.5%; Wasting is at 19.3%; Underweight is at 32.1%."

While the Indian economy has undergone several reforms--the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax, adoption of digital public infrastructure--in the last 11 years, it has also withstood tests of resilience due to a natural cause like the COVID-19, as well as man-made causes like demonetisation. India's GDP, which has grown at an average pace of 6.2% in the last 11 years, is currently at over $4 trillion. India is expected to surpass Japan to become the fourth-largest economy in the current fiscal.   End
