--IMD: India Jun 1-10 rainfall at 23.9 mm, 33% below normal 

 

MUMBAI - India received 1.7 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 60% below the normal of 4.2 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. All four homogeneous regions across the country received below-normal showers.

 

Rainfall in east and northeast India was 88% below normal at 1.2 millimetres, data from the department showed. In northwest India, rainfall was 99% below the normal of 1.8 millimetres. Central India recorded 2.5 mm of precipitation, 31% below the normal of 3.6 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 27% below normal rainfall at 3.3 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall Tuesday was "large excess" in three, "excess" in two, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in 14, the data showed. Eleven subdivisions saw no rainfall, while one received "normal" showers. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 23.9 millimetres of rainfall, 33% below the normal weighted average of 35.5 millimetres for the period, the data showed.  End
