MUMBAI - India received 1.8 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 56% below the normal of 4.1 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, three received below-normal showers and one recorded above normal precipitation.
Rainfall in east and northeast India was 87% below normal at 1.2 millimetres, data from the department showed. In northwest India, rainfall was 99% below the normal of 2.2 millimetres. Central India recorded 1.0 mm of precipitation, 71% below the normal of 3.3 millimetres. However, the southern peninsula received 52% above normal rainfall at 6.5 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Monday was "large excess" in six, "excess" in one, "deficient" in four, and "large deficient" in 14, the data showed. Eleven subdivisions saw no rainfall, while none received "normal" showers. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 22.2 millimetres of rainfall, 29% below the normal weighted average of 31.3 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
