NEW DELHI – In the past 11 years, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi–led government has laid a strong foundation for a developed and self-reliant India, and has brought transparency and built a forward-looking, futuristic administration, Bharatiya Janata Party President and Health Minister J.P. Nadda said Monday.

"This is a transparent and futuristic government. That is why we talk about Viksit Bharat. ...These 11 years have formed the base of Viksit Bharat. It should be written in golden letters that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi over the past 11 years, a remarkable transformation has taken place," Nadda said at a press briefing on the completion Modi government's 11 years.

The BJP president, while expressing difficulty to present a full account of 11 years, named some bold decisions taken by the Modi government such as abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, law against Triple Talaq, Citizenship Amendment Act, and 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies.

Nadda criticised the previous Congress-led governments for corruption. "Before 2014, the previous government was full of corruption and a prevailing sense of negativity. But after 2014, under the leadership of PM Modi, that sentiment changed. In the last 11 years, we have moved forward with the mantra of 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas'," he said.

Referring to abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Nadda said the country had accepted that this was not possible, but the Modi government abrogated the special status of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir. "The turnout in the Lok Sabha was 58.46%, while the turnout in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections was 63%. This change has come due to the bold decision of the Modi government," Nadda said.

He said the people's participation has significantly increased under the Modi government because of the strong trust in leadership and cited initiatives like Swachh Bharat which have become among the most successful mass movements.

He said the BJP government has taken several initiatives to bring deprived sections of the society into the mainstream. "Over the past decade, we have worked with deep concern for all sections of society. From empowering Lakhpati Didis to promoting Self-Help Groups — the Modi government has made dedicated efforts to bring women, as well as scheduled castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Class communities, into the mainstream of national development," Nadda said.  End
