--PM MOdi: To attend G-7 summit in Canada in June
NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday said he has received an invitation and will attend the G7, or Group of Seven, Summit in Canada, which will be held from Jun. 15 to 17. Modi will also meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the Summit.
"Glad to receive a call from Prime Minister Mark Carney @MarkJCarney (Mark Carney) of Canada. Congratulated him on his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month. As vibrant democracies bound by deep people-to-people ties, India and Canada will work together with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests. Look forward to our meeting at the Summit," Modi shared on X, formerly Twitter.
G7 Summit is held annually for the leaders of the member states--France, the US, the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada, and the European Union. According to Canada, global economic stability and growth, international peace and the digital transition will be the agenda of the Summit. According to reports, Canada has also invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese among others to the Summit.
Prime Minister Modi has been getting the invitation for the G7 Summit since 2019. In Canada, Modi would see US President Donald Trump for the first time since Operation Sindoor. Trump claimed negotiating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, which New Delhi out rightly rejected.
Earlier, there were speculations that PM Modi was not invited for the G7 Summit. The Congress had called it a big diplomatic failure after the "blunder" of allowing Trump to "mediate" between India and Pakistan. End
