MUMBAI – India received 3.1 millimetres rainfall on Thursday, 8% below the normal of 3.4 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was above normal in three homogeneous regions, while one region received below-normal showers.
Rainfall in east and northeast India was up 1% at 8.5 millimetres, data from the department showed. In northwest India, rainfall was 45% above normal at 1.9 millimetres. Central India recorded 2.8 millimetres of precipitation, 18% above the normal of 2.4 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 1.3 millimetres of rainfall, 71% below the average of 4.3 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions, rainfall Thursday was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in four, and "normal" in three, the data showed. Six subdivisions saw deficient rainfall, 13 received "large deficient" showers. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 17.4 millimetres of rainfall, 17% above the normal weighted average of 14.9 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
