India gets whopping 106% above average rainfall in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 38.7 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, which is 106% above the normal of 18.8 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. All the four homogeneous regions in the country received above average rainfall during the week, data showed.

 

Northwest India saw a sharp rise in rainfall, recording 107% above average rains at 17.2 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsula shot up 49% to 35.9 millimetres while central India saw a 78% above-normal precipitation at 17.8 millimetres. Precipitation over the east and northeast India was a whopping 149% above the long-period average at 128.2 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large excess' in 17 subdivisions and 'excess' in five. Eight subdivisions recorded 'normal' rainfall and four saw 'deficient' rainfall during the week. Rainfall was 'large deficient' in two subdivisions.

 

India received 185.8 millimetres of rainfall, 42% above the normal 130.6 millimetres, during Mar-May.  End
