MUMBAI – India received 10% above normal rainfall Wednesday at 3.4 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was above normal in two homogeneous regions, while the other two homogeneous regions received below-normal showers.
Rainfall in east and northeast India was up 24% at 9.2 millimetres, data from the department showed. In northwest India, rainfall was a whopping 148% above normal at 3.0 millimetres. Central India recorded 1.9 millimetres of precipitation, 23% below the normal of 2.4 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 2.2 millimetres of rainfall, 43% below the average of 3.8 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall Wednesday was "large excess" in 12, "excess" in three, and "normal" in five, the data showed. Six subdivisions saw deficient rainfall, nine received "large deficient" showers, and one saw no rainfall. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 14.3 millimetres of rainfall, 25% above the normal weighted average of 11.5 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
