MUMBAI – India received 4% above normal rainfall on Tuesday at 3.0 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was above normal in two homogeneous regions, while other two received below-normal showers. 

 

Rainfall in east and northeast India was sharply up by 38% at 9.4 millimetres, data from the department showed. In northwest India, rainfall was 79% above normal at 2.3 millimetres. Central India recorded 0.9 millimetres of precipitation, 52% below the normal of 1.9 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 2.6 millimetres of rainfall, 39% below the average of 4.2 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 sub-divisions, rainfall was "large excess" in eight on Tuesday, "excess" in four, and "normal" in four, the data showed. Seven sub-divisions saw deficient rainfall, 12 received "large deficient" showers, and one saw no rainfall. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 10.9 millimetres of rainfall, 29% above the normal weighted average of 8.4 millimetres for the period, the data showed.  End
