NEW DELHI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India Monday said it will likely hold more investor outreach programmes on claiming unpaid or unclaimed dividends and shares from companies. This follows the first conference held in Pune on Monday under SEBI's newly-launched investor outreach programme called 'Niveshak Shivir' in collaboration with the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority, managed by the corporate affairs ministry.
"This investor outreach initiative aims to assist shareholders in reclaiming unpaid dividends and unclaimed shares and thereby reduce the volume of unclaimed investor assets in the system," SEBI said in a press release. The market regulator said a dedicated search facility at the Pune venue helped participants identify whether they or their family members had any unclaimed shares or dividends. "Upon verification, trained officials assisted claimants with the accurate submission of the IEPF-5 form, ensuring a seamless and guided claim process," SEBI said.
The markets regulator said it proposes to take forward the investor outreach conferences to "other cities with significant unclaimed investor assets." SEBI received assistance for the conference from the National Stock Exchange of India, BSE, National Securities Depository, Central Depository Services, and five registrars and transfer agents. End
