RBI says bank deposits grew 10.6% on year in FY25 vs 13.0% yr ago

MUMBAI – Deposits with scheduled commercial banks grew 10.6% in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), lower than 13.0% reported a year ago, the Reserve Bank of India said in a publication Friday. The data is net of mergers, it said.
A dominant share of deposits came from bank branches in metropolitan areas, which recorded a 11.7% year on-year growth in March. Growth in rural areas was 10.1%, in semi-urban areas was 8.9% and urban areas was 9.3% on year, the publication said. The household segment made up the largest share of scheduled commercial banks as it stood at 60.2% of total deposits. Female depositors' share remained the same as last year at 20.7% in March.
The share of term deposits of INR 10 million and above rose to 45.1% in March, from 43.7% a year ago. As of March, share of senior citizens' deposits was 20.2% of total deposits, the release said.
The share of term deposits with interest rate of 7% and above increased to 72.7% for the reporting year compared with 64.2% in FY24, the release said. End
