NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday laid the foundation stone for and inaugurated several power and infrastructure projects cumulatively worth about INR 476.00 billion in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Addressing a rally, he said Kanpur and the state will lead India's journey to becoming a major defence exporter. He said new factories would be set up in the region and thousands of local youths will gain employment.

Modi inaugurated multiple power plants, a section of the Kanpur metro, and several road projects. He also announced that INR 10.00 billion will be invested in constructing an elevated rail corridor in the region, significantly improving traffic flow, increasing speed, and reducing pollution.

Describing Uttar Pradesh's development as a priority for his government, Modi said progress would be achieved by promoting industries and restoring Kanpur's historic glory. He remarked that previous governments had neglected the requirements of modern industries, leading to the decline of Kanpur's industrial presence.

Invoking the success of "Operation Sindoor", Modi said it showcased India's indigenous defence capabilities and the strength of "Make in India". "India's homegrown weapons, including the BrahMos missile, struck targets with precision, causing destruction deep within enemy territory," he said.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and destroyed terrorist camps at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation came in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Apr. 22 in which 26 people were killed.

Modi repeated his assertion that the operation is not over yet and outlined three clear principles in India's fight against terrorism. He said, "India will deliver a decisive response to every terrorist attack. India will no longer be intimidated by nuclear threats, nor will it make decisions based on such warnings. India will view both the masterminds of terrorism and the governments that shelter them in the same light."

The prime minister also paid tribute to Shubham Dwivedi of Kanpur, who was killed in the attack in Pahalgam.  End
