--Apollo Hosp board OKs buying land in Bengaluru for 500-bed hospital

HYDERABAD - Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. board on Friday approved buying 2.53 acres of land and a 200-bed hospital property at Sarjapur in Bengaluru, the company said in a press release.

The company will pay INR 2.85 billion towards the acquisition of the 200-bed hospital property, while the cost of the 2.53 acres of land is INR 9.44 billion, Apollo Hospitals said. With the latest addition and the ongoing brownfield expansion, the total capacity in Bengaluru will be 1,500 beds, the company said.

Apollo Hospitals is also expanding its existing hospitals at Jubilee Hills and Secunderabad in Hyderabad by adding 160 new beds. With the upcoming new hospital in the Gachibowli area of Hyderabad, the total capacity in Hyderabad will touch 1,400 beds, the company said.

With these expansions, Apollo Hospitals committed to adding 4,300 beds across hospitals in the next 3-4 years. As of Mar. 31, Apollo Hospitals has 8,025 operating beds.

On Friday, Apollo Hospitals' shares ended at INR 6,880.50 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.6% from previous close.  End
