MUMBAI – India received 8.5 millimetres of rainfall on Friday, a startling 255% above the normal weighted average of 2.4 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was above normal in all four homogeneous regions of the country.
Rainfall in east and northeast India was a whopping 271% at 26.4 millimetres, data from the department showed. In northwest India, rainfall was 264% above normal at 3.6 millimetres. Central India recorded 2.9 millimetres of precipitation, 268% above the normal of 0.8 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 11.3 millimetres of rainfall, 263% above the average of 3.1 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall was "large excess" in 26 on Friday, "excess" in two, and "normal" in three, the data showed. Three subdivisions saw deficient rainfall, one received "large deficient" showers, and one saw no rainfall. Since Mar. 1, the country has received 175.7 millimetres of rainfall, 37% above the normal weighted average of 128.2 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
