Justices Anjaria, Bishnoi and Chadurkar take oath as Supreme Court judges

NEW DELHI – Justices N.V. Anjaria, Vijay Bishnoi and A.S. Chandurkar were on Friday sworn in as Supreme Court judges. With this, the top court has regained its full strength of 34 judges till Justice Bela Trivedi retires on Jun. 9. Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai administered the oath of office to the three new apex court judges. 

 

Justice Anjaria started his legal profession as a lawyer in the Gujarat High Court in August 1988 by joining the chamber of senior advocate S.N. Shelat. He conducted matters involving constitutional issues and all categories of civil cases, labour, and service. He was elevated as an additional judge of the high court in November 2011 and was confirmed as a permanent judge in 2013. Justice Anjaria took oath as chief justice of the Karnataka High Court last year.

 

Justice Bishnoi enrolled as an advocate in 1989 and practised at the Rajasthan High Court and the Central Administrative Tribunal at Jodhpur. He dealt with matters in a wide range of areas, such as civil, criminal, constitutional, service, and elections. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 2013. He took oath as a permanent judge of the court in 2015. He was appointed chief justice of the Gauhati High Court in 2024.

 

Justice Chandurkar joined the Bar in 1988 and began his legal practice in the chamber of senior advocate N. Naik. He handled different subjects. He has also authored two books on the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats & Industrial Townships Act, 1965, and the Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999. He was elevated as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013.  End
