PM Modi holds roadshow in Bihar, inaugurates terminal of Patna airport

NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday held a roadshow in election-bound Bihar and also inaugurated the newly constructed terminal of Patna airport. The new terminal built at a cost of around INR 12 billion can handle 10 million passengers per year. Modi is on a two-day visit to Bihar.

 

After the inauguration of Patna airport terminal, Prime Minister Modi held a roadshow for nearly 6 kilometers from the airport to the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Patna. According to reports, Modi also held a meeting with the BJP leaders and workers at the party office in view of the state assembly elections due in Oct-Nov this year. This marked Modi's third visit to poll-bound state this year. Modi's last visit to Bihar was in April, days after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people were killed. He made an address in Hindi and English, committing a strong response to the Pahalgam attack.

 

At the roadshow, a huge number of people welcomed Modi in Patna with tricolours in their hands and patriotic slogans in reference to Operation Sindoor, which Indian armed forces launched on May 7 in retaliation to Pahalgam attack. 

 

In 243-member assembly, the BJP stands as the single-largest party with 84 seats. The party has doubled its seat count from 37 in 2005 to 84 now in the state. At present, the National Democratic Alliance of Janata Dal (United) and the BJP is in power in Bihar under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. According to reports, the alliance would contest election with Kumar as chief minister face. However, an official announcement on that is yet to be made.

 

According to the prime minister's office, Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stone of multiple development project worth over INR 485.20 billion in Bihar on Friday. To boost power infrastructure in the region, he will lay the foundation stone for the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-II in Aurangabad district worth over INR 299.30 billion.

 

In line with his commitment to improving rail infrastructure across the country, the prime minister will dedicate to the nation the third rail line between Son Nagar–Mohammad Ganj worth over INR 13.30 billion.  End
